Before you begin your search for a web host you should first determine whether you need shared web hosting or dedicated web hosting.
A shared web hosting account is an account on a web server that hosts other shared accounts. A dedicated server is usually dedicated to one, or just a few websites, usually for the sole use by one company. The cost of a dedicated server is higher than that of a shared hosting account. Whatever type of web hosting plan you choose, make sure that the plan you've chosen fits your needs.
The most important thing to remember with web hosting is you get what you pay for. Their are many host out their who offer you the world for three bucks a month. Avoid host like this. They most likely have very packed servers and are over selling (offering more space/bandwidth/resources than they can provide) which will cause a lot of problems down the road.
When you have found a host that suits your needs, do a little research. Contact people who use this host and ask if they are happy with the service. Send their tech support an email and see how long it takes them to reply. There are many hosting directories and top host sites out their, but you can't always trust these. Some are simply a list of host that were willing to pay the most for the top spot or the actual site was made by the hosting company to promote their service.
