FinePrint Software upgraded its low-cost PDF creation tools, pdfFactory and pdfFactory Pro, with a variety of new features.
The updates are designed to make the Acrobat alternatives even more attractive to price-conscious users, FinePrint said.
“Version 2.0 of pdfFactory and pdfFactory Pro gives those who want PDF-writing capabilities even less reason to spend several hundred dollars more for Adobe Acrobat, ” said Jonathan Weiner, president of FinePrint Software.
Version 2.0 of pdfFactory now has a setting to adjust the quality and file-size characteristics of graphics, as well as improved support for transparent images and hatched/patterned documents, which often do not usually translate well into a PDF file, the company said.
The professional version, pdfFactory Pro Version 2.0, also has that new setting, plus several new features aimed at users who need to create multiple PDFs at one time. For example, users who need create various types of documents--such as secure documents or PDFs with bookmarks-- can now establish multiple pdfFactory Pro configurations that can be selected from the Print menu. To create PDFs, users click on pdfFactory Pro in the Print menu as if they were going to print the document to a printer and simply choose from a variety of options, such as “secure PDF” or “bookmark PDF, ” each with their own specific settings, the company said.
The Pro version also has new e-mail features that let users create PDFs and e-mail them to several recipients, merging the different e-mail addresses and subject lines on the fly. This feature is especially useful for documents such as invoices and purchase orders that are regularly produced and e-mailed to groups of recipients.
