TLC Updates Online Selection

Thursday, November 27 2003

The Library Corporation (TLC) has released version 1.2 of its Online Selection Assistant product, although the acquisitions tool only debuted at the American Library Association's Midwinter Meeting in January 2003 (InfoTech , LJ 3/1/03, p. 25). The product, which TLC describes as a "vendor-neutral collection development and information management solution that automates the process of materials selection, purchasing, and accounting," has been upgraded with several new features as a result of customer requests and feedback from the field.

Among the improvements are Claims and Cancel Notices, which allow users to list and print notices that are due to be printed, or reprint previously printed lists; an Order History Report feature for searching for order information by library name, fund name, and date since the status was last modified; List Search by Purchase Order Number; a Search/ List Invoices feature to search for and generate a list of invoices; and the ability to generate web-based reports.

Librarians can access materials using the Online Selection Assistant from such publishers as Boyds Mills Press, Penguin, Random, and IPG. Wholesalers that participate in the service are Baker & Taylor, Brodart, Book Wholesalers, Inc., Ingram Book Group, and Crimson Multimedia, Inc.
