MobiPocket, SA and Franklin Electronic Publishers, Inc. (Amex: FEP) announced today the launching of eBookBase, the world's first wholesale eBook distribution service exclusively targeted at mobile devices. Now for the first time a publisher can have valued content at a host of "e-tail" storefronts while only needing to deal with a single point of payment, distribution and security.
With the eBookBase service, publishers can securely protect and distribute digital media to a growing global network of online retailer outlets. Through membership, these storefront members gain instant access to thousands of popular eBook titles. A growing list of over 10,000 titles from over 100 of the world's most prestigious publishers is available today. Titles in the eBookBase system are available in four languages in the cross-platform MobiPocket format. Management services for digital libraries on the eBookBase system is free to participating publishers. Member retailers pay no fees for access to the eBook catalog. Digital rights management (DRM) services are available to eBookBase publishers on a per-copy fee basis.
