CVision Technologies announced that it has released a desktop version of its pdfCompressor PDF file compression software.
Like the professional version, pdfCompressor Desktop Edition compresses PDF files to one-tenth their regular size. For example, the software can compress a typical 10-page 300 dpi PDF image file, which might be between 900K and 1M bytes in standard PDF format, to just 95K bytes, the company said.
The software makes it easier to e-mail PDF attachments, since e-mails are seldom rejected due to file size limitations and total transmission times are faster, since the file sizes are smaller. It also helps users work faster and more efficiently, since the compressed files load for viewing far faster than standard PDFs, the company said.
The professional version of the software, pdfCompressor Professional, is designed for power PDF users and can compress entire directories of PDF files at one time. The new desktop version is aimed more at users who don't mind compressing files one at a time. The desktop version also does not support compression of files with more than 100 pages, the company said.
The new desktop version costs just $349 per user vs. the professional version, which starts at $2,000.
