InfoSynthesis is now offering access to its database of Supreme Court decisions dating back to 1879--in PDF--less expensively than its famed legal database counterpart, LexisNexis. The selling points the company gives to the legal profession can be distilled to one word tied to one of PDF's strengths: searchability.
"What really sets this product apart is our extensive subject-matter indexing," said InfoSynthesis President Clayton Smalley. "If you want to find all of the cases where death penalty is a material issue, for example, our subject index pulls them up in a couple of mouse clicks. On other sites, your only tool is a simple word search. Anyone who has stared at a list of 3 million Google hits knows how inexact word searching can be."
