REB 1100 |
 The REB 1100 is a new dedicated ebook device from RCA. Licensed from Gemstar and based on the popular Rocket eBook, the device runs its own proprietary ebook format.
You read on the device much as you would a paper book. Make margin notes, underline special passages, and bookmark pages, but have the additional functionality of altering the font size and searchability. To get books you connect to your computer or, using its built-in modem, connect directly through the device.
Memory is added to the REB 1100 with the purchase of a SmartMedia™ Memory Card from your local consumer electronics or camera store. The card slips into a slot on the back of the device underneath the rubber flap. Slide the card into the slot with the connectors facing down towards the eBook. Close the flap and turn on the REB 1100. To make sure you have connected your card correctly, press the Bookshelf icon and tap About your eBook. Tap Details to check how much memory you have. If the memory has not increased, repeat the steps and check the memory again.
The REB 1100 does not include an application to support text files. It supports an encrypted format so that eBook Editions™ can be downloaded again and again to your REB 1100.

About Ebook Readers: There are numerous ebook readers available, many as free downloads. Ebook reader software is essential to view ebooks and allows you to adjust the text to suit your preferences. Ebooks come in many formats (html, pdf, rtf, Palm OS, etc) and there are many ebook readers to choose from. Most desktops come with a PDF file reading program.
